ACCOMMODATIONS AND
LAYOUT:
|
Boarding is amidships from rail gates to covered port or
starboard side decks. To forward the waist high side deck rail
becomes a Portuguese bridge with gate access to the foredeck and
port and starboard doors to the pilothouse. Moving aft the side
decks open to the canoe stern aft deck and an access door to the
main salon. Above the salon deckhouse is the boat deck with the
yacht’s tender, tender lifting davit, ship’s antenna mast, and
the engine dry stack exhaust.
Accessed from the aft deck or the pilothouse is the main deck
salon. This cabin is fitted with large heavy gauge windows
(facing to port, starboard, and aft), a white fabric overhead,
and nicely finished teak walls and trim. Furnished for
comfortable lounging and dining, the salon features a built-in
L-shaped settee with sofa cushions, a high/low drop leaf table,
side chairs, built-in window sill counter, cabinets, lockers,
and drawers.
Forward and open to the salon, is a galley that has been
recently remodeled with new wood flooring, paint, and all new
appliances. The galley features a top-loading cruising freezer,
ample cabinets and drawers, and a large U-shaped counter for
food preparation and buffet style serving.
Forward of the galley is a large pilothouse with port and
starboard doors opening to a Portuguese bridge with access to
the foredeck and sided decks. The pilothouse has a convertible
settee/watch berth, table, chart drawers, Todd helm chair,
completely duplicated navigation equipment, a back-up navigation
electronics battery, and complete engine and helm controls.
Below decks a forward stateroom has upper and lower berths. It
may be accessed from the Portuguese bridge deck area forward of
the pilothouse or from a watertight door located on the lower
deck at the master stateroom. The master stateroom area is
accessed from a stairway located in the main salon. Amidships
and designed as a full beam cabin, the master stateroom has been
divided into two cabins by the current owner. The two amidships
cabins thus created are equally proportioned to port and
starboard. Each is fitted with upper and lower single berths,
and the lower berths have built-in drawers underneath. These
cabins also feature small cupboards, hanging lockers, built-in
counter tops (could be fitted with vanity sinks), and louvered
entry doors. These two cabins share the large 'master
stateroom' head, which has a shower and ample storage
compartments. (Note:
So the full beam configuration of the original master stateroom
may be readily restored, the 1/2" painted plywood dividing wall
is fashioned for easy removal).
Aft of the reconfigured master stateroom is a full beam engine
room. Aft of the engine room is another double berth
stateroom. This cabin has an access door to the engine room and
is currently used as the crew’s quarters. The cabin features a
full head with stall shower, and is accessed via a stairway from
the main salon. |
- Sleeps eight in four staterooms
- 6' 4" Headroom.
- Hurricane hot water heater for thermostat
heat in all cabins.
- Wall heater in salon and amidships
staterooms.
|
- (3) heads: Two with Tecma push button
electric operation; one with manual pump operation.
- Three enclosed showers.
- New wood floors and paint in salon and
galley.

LISTING AGENT REMARKS:
|
Constructed of steel and custom built to high standards as a
Long Range Trawler yacht for a very knowledgeable cruising
couple, this Ben Ostlund design was featured in Captain Robert
Beebe's first (1973) edition of 'Voyaging Under Power'. The
yacht features a Raised Pilothouse, Portuguese Bridge, dedicated
upper boat deck with davits and tenders, a refurbished interior,
four sleeping cabins with eight berths, three heads with
enclosed showers, a full beam engine room with watertight
bulkheads and doors, a large galley and comfortable salon and
covered back deck that can be enclosed with canvas and isinglass
adding to the extensive living spaces. She is extremely
economical to operate with simple systems.
A 2005 Audio gauge inspection of the steel hull and a complete
Marine Survey conducted in May of 2008 both indicate that the
yacht is structurally and mechanically sound, in very good
overall condition for long-range voyaging, and is suitably set
up for six-passenger charter service. Also in May of 2008 the
bottom was stripped to bare metal and received two coats of
epoxy barrier coat paint, a strip of fiberglass cloth imbedded
at the waterline for abrasion resistance, and antifouling paint.
Since then, the hull above the waterline has been completely
re-faired and painted, the decking refurbished, and as noted in
the accommodations section of the yacht specifications display,
the master stateroom has been reconfigured into two separate
cabins (to accommodate charter parties), and the yacht's 12 volt
electrical systems have been upgraded. Indeed, this yacht has
had a thorough and recent going over and is ready to go now. The
Master may be easily converted back to original configuration of
a single double full beam stateroom.
Note: The yacht is outfitted
for expedition fishing-eco charters and is successfully operated
as a six-pack charter business in the waters surrounding Juneau,
Alaska. With full bookings in place for the 2009 Alaska charter
season, this yacht is positioned to produce significant income.
For additional compensation equitable to the seller, the yacht’s
charter business may be transferred to the buyer as part of the
yacht sale. Alternatively, the charters may be moved off to
another vessel and be free for cruising in Alaska this
Spring/Summer.
Considering that this yacht has received notable recognition as
a very well designed passagemaking trawler, is custom built to
high standards, has had good care and has received significant
and recent upgrades, has an extensively proven cruising ability,
the 'Whale Song' presents a rare opportunity, and an excellent
value. As such, we recommend scheduling your showing appointment
at the soonest convenience.
Exclusions:
Owner’s personal items.
